While Utah has been great at home this season (20-6), Houston has been one of the league’s better teams on the road. They’ve also had a lot of success against the Jazz, winning seven of their previous nine meetings. Given the value here, I like the Rockets to upset the Jazz on Saturday night.
Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
The Jazz -1.5 (-115) are less than a basket favorite over the ROCKETS +1.5 (+106) on Saturday night. While Utah’s record is fantastic at home this season, they haven’t fared well against the spread, as of late. They have failed to cover the spread in Utah in four of their last five games. Meanwhile, Houston is getting hot at the right time, covering in five of their last seven games. Given how even these teams are, give me Houston and the points on Saturday night.
Over/Under (O/U)
The total for this Western Conference matchup is set for 233.5 points, which actually feels a little bit too high despite this game involving the Houston Rockets. Utah has one of the best defenses in the NBA, allowing just over 107 points per game. The Rockets revolution continues
The Rockets jumped right back on to their ‘small ball’ wave on Thursday. Returning from the All-Star break with an impressive 135-105 road win over the Golden State Warriors. Houston shot a combined 51% (25/49) from behind the arc, and both James Harden and Russel Westbrook had ‘double-doubles’ – picking up 50 points between the two of them. Meanwhile, PJ Tucker got involved in the shooting gallery, hitting all five of his 3-point attempts on Thursday night.
Tucker has had his usage extended with the absence of SG Eric Gordon who has been sidelined with a leg injury. Gordon is expected to miss his fourth game in a row on Saturday. The Rockets have owned the Jazz historically as of late, winning 7 of their last 10 head to head. Houston can leapfrog the Jazz and land in 4th place in the Western Conference with the win tonight.
The Rockets have turned their ship around since trading Clint Capela to the Atlanta Hawks for perimeter shooter Robert Covington. Prior to the deal the Rockets were on an 11-9 stretch, but have since won 7 of their last 10, winning by an average score of 118-114 in those ten games. Jazz just can’t find their beat
As for the Jazz, they had their four-game winning streak put to an end on Friday night vs San Antonio. Utah trailed by 19 at half time and allowed the Spurs to cruise to a 113-104 win in front of their home crowd. The loss was just Utah’s sixth L in their last 26 games. Despite their recent success, Utah’s shooting game was completely off on Friday night. Shooting guard Donovan Mitchell had a disappointing performance going just 5 of 14 from the floor and only picking up 12 points.
Mitchell wasn’t the only one struggling to make shots against the Spurs on Friday night, Bojan Bogdanovic was only able to sink 3 of his 13 shots from the floor, picking up 15 points in the effort. The only bright spot for the Jazz was Center Rudy Gobert, who picked up 18 points, going 7 of 8 from the floor and securing his 6th straight ‘double-double’ and the18th in his last 19 games. The Jazz will look to turn things around quickly on Saturday night but will need to buck recent history in doing. As of late, the Jazz have struggled to bounce back from poor performances, sitting with a 7-11 ATS record when coming off a loss.

I feel like this one game might soar over, especially if the Jazz struggled to find their legs on the second half of a back to back. If the Rockets continue to shoot as well as they have as of late, I could see this game being in the mid-200’s easily. Give me the over.
Best Bet
This is a rare spot where I will be going against my power ratings and backing the Rockets. Houston has been a tough team to handicap all season long, but I finally think I’ve got a handle on them. The Rockets’ polished shooting game and ability to create space up the middle, might cause the Jazz problems defensively – especially for a team on a back to back. As long as Harden and Westbrook are in the lineup, this is a team I want to be backing in the short term – give me the Rockets tonight.
